Return of the 70s
Early morning winter chill quickly gives way to a very warm January afternoon! Daytime hours feel like spring through Friday before another strong polar blast surges into Texas...
Coldest this morning, as of 7am:
23 Big Sandy Crk@Jonestown 25 Spicewood 26 Cow Crk@Lago Vista 26 Fredericksburg 27 Dripping Springs 27 Barton Crk@Oak Hill 27 Bertram 27 Marble Falls 27 Wilbarger Crk@Elgin 28 Burnet 29 ABIA 30 Cedar Park
Clear, sunny skies and warm, dry southwest winds combine to offer low 70s by 3pm. We drop to upper 30s along I-35 briefly Thursday morning then rebound into the mid 70s. Some may touch 80 by Friday, all as high pressure makes a cameo appearance overhead. Then the bottom drops again...
Another strong polar cold front sweeps the Lone Star State just as the weekend begins. We'll start near 60 Saturday then drop through 50s to 40s during the day, possibly ending up with a light freeze Sunday morning. It now appears drier, clearer, and even colder for the second half of our weekend.
More Arctic Chill... A record low of -55 in Circle Hot Springs, Alaska, this week raises eyebrows as some of the coldest air so far this winter seeps across the Northern Hemisphere. It appears to be heading south across the Lower 48 next week, arriving in our area by Wednesday with some seriously frigid results! Stay tuned as we track the chill.
As always, you'll find the very latest details on the 8-day forecast.
Thanks for reading. Get out and enjoy your Wednesday. Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons
